roasted peaches with crème fraîche caramel sauce + a giveaway

Monday, September 8, 2014

“Fish tacos with pomegranate salsa tucked into warm corn tortillas, happily made from scratch by the kiddos. Homemade crème fraîche. Rainbow slaw packed with purple cabbage, green apple, radish, and orange. A pot of smoky Midnight black beans. Watermelon punch with fresh lime and crushed mint. This is supper at our home. Friends chat, kids play, and we eat simple goodness…” This is how Erin Scott’s Yummy Supper…

no-churn fig + coffee ice cream with cacao nibs

Thursday, September 19, 2013

It has always seemed strange to me…the things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling, are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest, are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second. -John Steinbeck, Cannery Row Recently Puro Fairtrade…

peach and cherry galettes

Monday, August 19, 2013

I’m sneaking in for a post. I just couldn’t help myself; there were cherries. Not just any cherries, but hand-picked cherries dripping from trees like drops of rain: red, sparkling drops of sweet-tart rain. We filled our bucket gleefully, and my baker-heart had prophetic visions of flaky turnovers leaking dark juices, and sweet-sour chutney served next to roasted chicken; cherry and vanilla bean compote to cover the tops…

strawberries + cream amaretti cookies (gluten free) | guest post from top with cinnamon

Monday, June 17, 2013

It’s the summer of fun! For reasons before mentioned, I am lining up guest posts for this summer. Up next is Izy from Top With Cinnamon. I’ve been enamored with Izy’s photographs for awhile now, and when I found out she was 17 years old, I was even more impressed. I wish I would have had this much ambition (and had been this cool) in high school. This…

A Trio of Summer Beverages | Guest Post From Reclaiming Provincial

Monday, June 10, 2013

It’s the summer of fun! For reasons before mentioned, I am lining up guest posts for this summer. First up is Carey from Reclaiming Provincial. I somehow only recently discovered Carey’s space a few months ago, but fell in love instantly with her gorgeous photographs and recipes. She’s amazing. Hello, everyone! I am excited to be sharing something in Sarah’s gorgeous space. I have long admired her work,…

plum walnut crumb tart

Sunday, August 28, 2011

I couldn’t resist these little plums. They jumped out at me as I walked through the store, and my daughter squealed with delight as something so tiny and so purple was put into our cart. I came home to find the Smitten Kitchen had posted a recipe for a Hazelnut Plum Crumb Tart. It was meant to be. Except I didn’t have hazelnuts. So I did some tweaking,…

baking dessert pies + tarts summer

key lime pie

Friday, August 19, 2011

My family is now torn between two desserts. Dessert one is the chocolate cake. Those of us with Fall and Winter birthdays always request it. It is hard to say no to it. But some people, those with early spring and summer birthdays, beg for dessert two: key lime pie. Their hearts are not changed by deep dark chocolate – they insist on this tart green goodness. When…

baking breakfast muffins

ginger peach muffins

Saturday, July 30, 2011

This is another recipe from Kim Boyce’s ‘Good To The Grain’ cookbook that I’ve been enamored with. I had some friends coming over and happened to have all the ingredients on hand, so muffins were made. I’ve never been that interested in whole wheat muffins – they are usually too dry and dense. But I had a feeling I could trust Ms. Boyce with this one. I’m glad…
