simple strawberry ice

I tend to get hung up on things. I fall in love with something, or someone, and then get slightly obsessive. For instance, there was my u2 obsession. It’s possible I only listened to The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby for an entire year. There was also my Ella Fitzgerald kick, and you can ask anyone I worked with at a coffeehouse about that. There was Gone with…

no-churn blood orange ice cream

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

When I was 17, a good friend handed me a copy of U2’s Joshua Tree. It was moments before I was headed out the door on our yearly family vacation to Wisconsin Dells, and it couldn’t have come at a better time, since I had recently worn out all my favorite recorded-off-the-radio mix tapes. Of course, I had heard some songs off the Joshua Tree in passing, but…

toasted sesame ice cream sandwich cookies with no-churn chinese 5-spice coconut milk ice cream

Sunday, January 8, 2012

Ahem. These little ice cream sandwiches are so good. I wasn’t too sure about them, when I started scheming them up. But I love Chinese 5-spice, and toasted sesame oil, and coconut milk, and cookies and ice cream and crystallized ginger. So why not make dessert instead of stir fry? You are either totally into this right now, or wrinkling up your nose at me. I understand. But…

no-churn pumpkin ice cream

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

Pumpkin sometimes ends up in odd places [for instance, in my latte], but once Fall arrives and sweaters are part of my everyday attire, that big orange gourd calls to me, promising comfort. This little experiment wasn’t a disappointment. Subtle pumpkin flavor, warm spices and creamy texture make this no-churn version…

no-churn strawberry rosemary ice cream

It’s more ice cream. I can’t help myself. I am having so much fun experimenting with this no-churn recipe. There are just so many things you can do with sweet frozen milk! Recently I spent an evening eating incredible ice cream with some dear friends and was so inspired by the flavor combinations: olive oil with fleur de sel, cardamom black pepper, and cucumber sorbet; just to name…

no-churn bittersweet chocolate ice cream with fleur de sel

Thursday, June 30, 2011

After making the vanilla bourbon ice cream, I had to give the  chocolate a try. I am sold on this no-churn ice cream. It’s so so easy, and it is so creamy. Bittersweet chocolate makes this incredible, and on a whim I sprinkled some fleur de sel on top. My heart stopped on first bite. I have been daydreaming of other flavor combinations, and am going to be…
